AutoHalo

Summary
AutoHalo collects nothing. There is no account, no AutoHalo server and no cloud: your phone talks to your car directly over Bluetooth, and everything the app keeps stays on your phone. There are no analytics, no advertising and no trackers.
What this app stores
AutoHalo stores the following, on your device:
- Your cars: the name and colour you give each one, its body shape, its 17-character VIN (which the app needs to find and address the car), the model and year worked out from it, your favourite controls, your walk-up calibration and which controls the car has confirmed it supports
- Your routines, their run history and a history of the commands you sent
- Saved places (a name, a latitude and longitude, and a size), only if you save them while Settings › Car location is on
- Your preferences, such as the theme and whether to confirm sensitive actions
- The phone key for each car: a private key generated on the phone and kept in the iPhone Keychain or the Android Keystore, available only on this device. It is never written to the app's files, never logged and never leaves the phone
- A Bluetooth diagnostic log (the most recent lines, trimmed to about 200 KB) and hourly counts of what the app did, both shown in Settings › Diagnostics. They never contain a key, a session secret or your full VIN
Who else receives data
The following third parties receive data from this app, for the purposes described:
- Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) process the AutoHalo Pro purchase through the operating system's own purchase system. We never see your payment details.
Your car and Bluetooth
AutoHalo talks only to your own car, directly over Bluetooth, using a phone key you add during pairing. Commands, replies and the car's state (lock, doors, battery and so on) travel between the phone and the car and nowhere else. The app makes no network requests of its own; the only links it opens are to this website and the app's store page, in your browser, when you tap them.
Removing a car in Settings › Cars deletes that car's key from the phone. The car keeps its own list of keys; remove the phone there too, which the app explains how to do.
Your car's location
AutoHalo never uses your phone's location. If Settings › Car location is on (it is by default), the app reads the position your car reports about itself over Bluetooth, so routines can check whether the car is at a place you saved. That position is kept in memory only, never written to storage, and forgotten as soon as you turn Car location off. With it off, the app reads and keeps no position at all.
Saved places are stored on the phone with the rest of your data, and are deleted when you delete them or the app.
Diagnostics
Settings › Diagnostics shows the Bluetooth log and the hourly counts so you can see what the app did. They stay on the phone unless you tap Export, which hands the text to the share sheet and sends it only where you choose. On iPhone, the app also reads Apple's own daily performance report (MetricKit: CPU time, time in front and in the background, how the app ended) and adds those numbers to the same counts; it is never sent anywhere.
Backups
Your cars, routines, history, places and preferences are kept out of iCloud Backup on iPhone and iPad, and out of Google backup and device-to-device transfer on Android. Phone keys are kept to this device and are never backed up. On iPhone and iPad, the diagnostic log and usage counts may be included in your device's iCloud Backup under your Apple Account; they hold no key and no full VIN.
Android
On Android, AutoHalo works the same way and collects nothing. It asks for Bluetooth permission to find and talk to the car. On Android 10 and 11 only, Android requires location permission before an app may scan for Bluetooth devices, so AutoHalo asks for it there; it never reads the phone's position. To keep the link to the car and your routines working while the phone sleeps, the app runs a connected-device service and can ask, through Android's own dialog, to be exempted from battery optimisation.
AutoHalo Pro is bought through Google Play billing, and Google processes the payment under Google's privacy policy. We never see your payment details.
What we receive
The App Store and Google Play give us aggregate sales figures, and crash counts from people who chose to share them with developers. Nothing from the app itself reaches us.
Permissions
AutoHalo asks for a system permission only at the point it needs one. You can decline any of them, and the rest of the app keeps working:
- Bluetooth — to find, pair with and send commands to your car. Without it the controls and routines cannot work.
- Notifications — to tell you what a routine did. Routines still run without them; you just are not told.
- Location (Android 10 and 11 only) — those Android versions require it before an app can scan for Bluetooth devices. AutoHalo never reads your phone's position, and never asks for this on newer Android or on iPhone.
- Battery optimisation exemption (Android) — so the link to your car and your routines keep working while the phone sleeps. Asked with Android's own dialog from the app's background settings; without it, routines may stop when the phone sleeps.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
AutoHalo contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK and no tracking of any kind. It does not use the Advertising Identifier, and it does not ask for permission to track you across other apps or websites.
Children
AutoHalo is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Deleting your data
How to remove what AutoHalo holds:
- Remove each car in Settings › Cars. This deletes that car's phone key from the phone straight away. Do this before deleting the app: iOS can keep an app's Keychain items after the app itself is deleted.
- Delete the app. This removes your cars, routines, history, places, preferences and the diagnostic log. On Android: Settings › Apps › AutoHalo › Uninstall, which removes its Keystore keys with it.
- Remove the phone from the car's own key list, on the car's screen. AutoHalo cannot do this for you; it explains how when you remove a car.
- If your iPhone or iPad is backed up to iCloud, the diagnostic log and usage counts may remain in that backup until it is replaced or you delete it in Settings › your name › iCloud.
- We hold no copy of anything, so there is nothing for us to delete.
