FodWise
Last updated September 14, 2026
The short version
FodWise keeps your food and symptom diary on your device. There is no account, no sign-in, and no FodWise server. We cannot see your diary, because it is never sent to us. We collect no analytics and use no advertising or tracking SDKs.
The app makes exactly one optional network request, described below, and it sends a product barcode and nothing else.
Who we are
FodWise is published by ClickSpark Software, [registered address], [country].
For any privacy question, or to exercise any of the rights described below, email support@clicksparksoftware.com. Please do not include personal health details in a support email — we do not need them, and email is not a good place for them.
What FodWise stores, and where
Everything below is stored only on your device, inside the app's private storage, where other apps cannot read it:
- Meals, foods and portions you log, with their dates and times
- Symptoms and how you felt, with their dates and times
- Reintroduction challenges and their daily entries
- Favourites, recently viewed foods, shopping list items and custom foods you create
- Products you have scanned, kept so a repeat scan works offline
- Your settings: theme, units, reminder times, the optional display name, and whether online barcode lookup is enabled
If you back your phone up, that backup may include this data, under the terms of whichever backup service you use — Apple's iCloud Backup or Android's backup service. That backup is between you and them; FodWise neither creates it nor has access to it.
What we collect
Nothing. There is no account system, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no attribution, and no advertising or analytics SDK in the app.
We do receive aggregate sales reports from Apple and Google, because they process the purchase. Those reports tell us how many copies sold in which countries. They do not identify you, and we never see your name, email address or payment details. Apple's and Google's own privacy policies govern the purchase itself.
The one network request
When you scan a product barcode and online product lookup is enabled, FodWise asks the Open Food Facts community database (https://world.openfoodfacts.org) what that barcode is.
- What is sent: the barcode digits, and an identifier naming the app and its version so Open Food Facts can contact us about a misbehaving client.
- What is not sent: your diary, your symptoms, your settings, your display name, any device or advertising identifier, and any account — there isn't one.
- How to turn it off: Profile → Privacy → Online product lookup. With it off, barcode scanning still works against products already on your device, and no network request is made.
- Open Food Facts is an independent project with its own privacy policy. Their server will see the request, including the originating IP address, as any web server does.
Nothing else in FodWise uses the network. The food library, the articles, the swaps, the insights and both scanners work with no connection at all.
Camera and photos
The camera is used for two things: reading a barcode, and photographing an ingredient list so the text can be read.
The images are processed on your device and are never uploaded. Text recognition uses Apple's Vision framework on iOS and Google's ML Kit on Android, with the recognition model shipped inside the app, so it works with no connection. Photographs taken for a scan are not saved to your photo library or kept by the app; the recognised text is used to flag ingredients and then discarded.
If you refuse camera access, everything else in the app works, and barcodes can be typed in by hand.
Notifications
Reminders are optional and are scheduled locally by your device. There is no push server, and no reminder content leaves your phone. If you refuse notification permission, the rest of the app works and the reminders screen says plainly that the system has refused.
Export and deletion
- Export My Data (Profile → Export and delete) writes your diary to a file and hands it to the system share sheet. Where it goes from there is entirely your choice; the file does not pass through us.
- Delete All My Data (Profile → Export and delete) permanently removes every diary entry, challenge, favourite, scan, shopping item, custom food and setting. Because there is no copy anywhere else, this cannot be undone and we cannot recover it for you.
- Deleting the app removes its storage as well, by the same mechanism any app's storage is removed.
We keep your data for as long as you keep it, because we do not have it. There is no retention period for us to define.
Your rights
Data protection law — including the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act — gives you rights over personal data held about you: to access it, correct it, delete it, port it, and object to its processing.
Those rights are satisfied in the app itself rather than by writing to us, because we hold no personal data about you. Access and portability are the Export My Data button; erasure is the Delete All My Data button; correction is editing or deleting the entry. We have nothing to sell or share, and we do not sell or share personal information.
If you believe otherwise, email us and we will answer. You also have the right to complain to your data protection regulator — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office.
Children
FodWise is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone. The app contains no advertising, no social features, no user-generated content shared with anyone else, and no external links other than the two named in this policy. A low-FODMAP diet in particular should be undertaken with professional guidance at any age.
Health information
Your diary is health information, and it is treated as the most sensitive thing in the app. That is why it stays on the device, why analytics were left out rather than merely configured carefully, and why sensitive entries are excluded from any diagnostic output.
FodWise is educational and informational only. It does not diagnose any condition, it cannot tell you that a food caused a symptom, and it does not replace a doctor or a registered dietitian.
Changes to this policy
If FodWise ever collects or transmits anything it does not today, this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the change will be described here rather than only in the date at the top.
Two changes are foreseeable and worth naming now: adding crash reporting, which would send diagnostic data about failures but is required to exclude diary content; and optional cloud backup, which would be off by default and would be described in full before release.
