Beamie

Last updated October 3, 2026

Summary

Beamie works without any network. Messages travel by light from one phone to another and are never sent to a server, because there is none. There is no account, no analytics and no advertising.

What this app stores

Beamie stores the following, on your device:

  • Your Private Channels — the Channel Code and keys are kept in the iOS Keychain on this device only (never synced to iCloud), and channel names and settings in the app's own storage
  • Your settings and whether you have unlocked Beamie Pro

Who else receives data

The following third parties receive data from this app, for the purposes described:

  • Apple handles the Beamie Pro purchase through the App Store. It receives the purchase request, never your messages or channels, and sends us only aggregate sales counts that do not identify you.

Messages

Messages you send and receive exist only on the two phones involved and are not kept after you leave the conversation. Nothing is uploaded, and we have no way to see them.

A Channel Code is never transmitted, by light or otherwise. Both phones derive the same key from it on the device. Anyone who can see your phone can still tell that you are transmitting, roughly how long the message is and which channel ID it carries — the contents are what is encrypted.

Permissions

Beamie asks for a system permission only at the point it needs one. You can decline any of them, and the rest of the app keeps working:

  • Camera — to read the light signals another phone flashes at you. Nothing is recorded, the microphone is never used, and no images leave your device.

Analytics, advertising and tracking

Beamie contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK and no tracking of any kind. It does not use the Advertising Identifier, and it does not ask for permission to track you across other apps or websites.

Children

Beamie is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Deleting your data

How to remove what Beamie holds:

  • Delete a Private Channel from its details screen (Channels → the channel → Delete Private Channel). Its code and key are removed from the Keychain straight away.
  • Deleting the app removes its settings and channel list. iOS can keep an app's Keychain items after the app is deleted, so delete your Private Channels in the app first if you want their codes gone for certain. Those items stay on this iPhone only and are never synced to iCloud.
  • Messages are not kept after you leave the conversation, so there is no message history to delete.
  • We hold no copy of anything, so there is nothing for us to delete and nothing for us to recover.
