Summary
IPScope has no account, no analytics and no crash reporting. Your history, favourites, saved devices and settings are stored only on your device. Network traffic happens when you run a tool against a target you typed, plus the few connections described below.
What this app stores
IPScope stores the following, on your device:
- Your history of tool runs, favourites, saved devices and recent targets
- Your settings, and whether you have unlocked IPScope Pro
Who else receives data
The following third parties receive data from this app, for the purposes described:
- Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) handle the IPScope Pro purchase. They receive the product lookup and purchase request, never your history or targets, and send us only aggregate sales counts that do not identify you.
- Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) — the Internet check on the Home screen opens and immediately closes a connection to 1.1.1.1 port 443, sending nothing. By default it runs once per app session and when you tap Refresh or Check; turn off Settings → Defaults → Check Internet automatically and it runs only when you tap.
- Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) and Google (8.8.8.8) public DNS — used for a DNS lookup only when your device does not report its own DNS servers. They receive the name you asked about.
- Public IP providers you select — Cloudflare, Google DNS and ipify — receive a request from your device when you refresh the Public IP tool, which is how they report your address back.
- WHOIS lookups ask Team Cymru's IP-to-ASN service, over DNS, about the address you entered (a domain is resolved to an address first). Private and reserved addresses are answered on the device and never sent.
Tools you run
Every other connection IPScope makes is a tool you started, aimed at a host, address, port or URL you entered, and only while that tool runs: ping and traceroute probes, TCP and UDP connections, TLS handshakes, HTTP requests you composed, scans of the subnet you chose, and multicast DNS queries on your local network. Offline tools such as the subnet calculator send nothing, and MAC address vendor lookups use a copy of the IEEE registry built into the app, so they never leave the device.
The Listener accepts incoming connections on the port you choose only while it is running. Its TLS certificate is generated on your device.
Permissions
IPScope asks for a system permission only at the point it needs one. You can decline any of them, and the rest of the app keeps working:
- Location (while using the app) — iOS and Android reveal the name of your Wi-Fi network only to apps with location permission. IPScope asks only when you tap Allow on the Home network card, and never records or sends your location.
- Local network (iOS) — needed to reach devices on your network. The prompt appears the first time a tool touches the local network.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
IPScope contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK and no tracking of any kind. It does not use the Advertising Identifier, and it does not ask for permission to track you across other apps or websites.
Children
IPScope is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Deleting your data
How to remove what IPScope holds:
- Delete everything: open Settings → Delete all app data and confirm. History, favourites, saved devices, recent targets and settings are erased from the device.
- Your IPScope Pro unlock is kept, so it is not lost by accident. It belongs to your store account and can be restored after reinstalling.
- Deleting the app removes everything it stored on the device.
- We hold no copy of anything, so there is nothing for us to delete and nothing for us to recover.
